Freshman meetings with Mrs. Tatum will take place this week. Please make sure you have signed up for a slot. Email Mrs. Tatum at jltatum@rock.k12.nc.us if you have any questions.

We are happy to report we have had a successful start in our Safe Return to Learn on Plan A! We were very happy to welcome students back for in-person learning every day! Because Rockingham County Schools cares about our students and staff we want to provide some updates and reminders about illness and when students should be kept home.

As we begin to get back to more normal times, it still remains important to stay vigilant with our required prevention practices. At school, we will continue to social distance 6ft whenever possible, require face coverings worn properly, perform increased disinfecting practices, and promote frequent hand washing/hand sanitizer. As of April 12, 2021, the student's daily symptoms and temperature screenings will be discontinued. NC DHHS has removed this previous requirement from their guidelines. All employees will continue to complete daily symptoms and temperature screening.

We want to remind you of the importance of the following:

  • Do not send your child to school if he/she is sick.

  • Report symptoms to the school nurse or your child’s teacher.

  • Report immediately if your child or someone with whom your child has been in close contact has tested positive for COVID-19.

We are grateful for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Students be sure to log on or attend class face-to-face every day. Communication with your teacher is a key factor in your success. The semester will rapidly come to an end. Please finish strong. Parents use this week to take a look at your student’s grades in canvas and moodle.

Students, please be mindful of our dress code, as we will continue to follow county guidelines, and want to make sure our students are coming to school dressed appropriately. With the warmer weather, please be mindful of short lengths. In addition, all holes in jeans mid-thigh and above should be covered with patches from the inside.

Thank you again for your support. That is all, for now, have a great evening and we will see our face-to-face students bright and early tomorrow morning and everyone else virtually.

Good Evening RECHS Families,

This is your Principal, Russell Vernon, with some information for you tonight. We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate your child. RECHS values input from our community – and we need to hear from your child! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for everyone.

In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for students in grades 9 -12 to give feedback via an online survey. This will all happen during the regular school day on the week of March 1-12th and will not take more than 20 to 30 minutes.

We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide valuable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our school to their needs. The information we receive will be confidential. Parents wishing to opt out of the activity must visit our website and complete the signed opt out form prior to March 1st and submit to the school. There is also a copy attached here in this email. You only need to fill out the letter if you DO NOT want your child to participate. If you are okay with your child participating, there is no need to complete the form. Your student is important to us and this helps us understand and support your child!

We look forward to our continued work together! Thank you for partnering with us to make our year a success and have a great evening!

Staff and Students,

Here is a copy of the message that will go out tonight to your parents.

Please let me or your teachers know if you have any questions or concerns.

This is your principal, Russell Vernon, with an important COVID-19 update as we prepare for in-person learning beginning January 21st for students. Grades Prek-5 will attend five days a week on Plan A. Grades 6-12 will attend school on Plan B (AA/BB Schedule). Parents have a choice for a remote learning option also. If you would like to choose this remote option, please contact our school for a MOU form due by January 8, 2021. If you previously submitted a remote learning MOU and choose to continue this option, you do not need to submit a new MOU form.

Any student returning on January 21st will need to have an attestation form completed by January 21st. You may find this attestation form on our district and school website. Please complete this form for each of your children and submit no later than January 21st. Even if you have completed one of these forms earlier in the year, this is a new requirement for the updated safe return to learn plan.

View our COVID-19 Updates by clicking on the RCS CARES ABOUT YOUR SAFETY icon on the district webpage. Please remember all students and staff must continue to follow our current safety procedures and guidelines which include wearing a face covering properly over your nose and mouth at all times. In addition, students and staff will practice social distancing and washing hands frequently. For more information about our safety protocols, please visit our district website and our school website.

Thank you for your partnership as we work together to ensure our students and staff are safe. Have a great evening.
