Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-

This is Russell Vernon, Principal of RECHS calling with important reminders for this week of school:


Registration forms and $25.00 will be collected on Monday morning starting at 8:00 am for the Fall Driver’s Education class. The class starts this Wednesday, September 28th and will be from 3:00 to 5:45pm. Rides should be at RECHS by 5:30.


FCA will meet Monday morning, 8:15 am -8:45 am. Location: Mrs. Hammack’s classroom, L107. Remember everyone is invited. You do not have to be an athlete to come to FCA.

Applications for those invited to apply for membership in RECHS National Honor Society are due by the end of the school day on Monday, September 26, 2022, to Ms. Bankston in Humanities 205. They should be typed, and printed and include signatures of the student and parent.

Film Club will meet on Tuesday, September 27th in Mr. Johnson’s classroom. Also, the Gamers Club will meet on Thursday. Any students interested in joining these clubs should contact Mr. Johnson.

RECHS History Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, September 29th at 3:15 in classroom 208 of the Humanities Building (Ms. Abbott’s Classroom). History Club has rolling enrollment, students can join any month between August and April and we welcome you to come join us in making history.


IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT FRIDAY! Friday, September 30th is an Early Release day for RECHS and RCS schools. Students will be dismissed at 12:55. Bus will run on a regular schedule. All Mrs. Pumpkins Products will need to be picked up at 1:00 pm in the Whitcomb Student Center parking lot on Friday!


As zonal schools are starting to host dances and other events on campus, students remember you MUST be invited to other school dances, etc to participate. There is a form that I must sign in order to give you permission. The RECHS PTO of the Griffins will be hosting a school dance on Friday, October 28th. More details will be coming soon!

The Art Club will meet Monday from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Location Mrs. Hammack’s classroom, L107. We will work on completing the CD Suncatchers. Remember, if you have any special beads that you want to add to your Suncatcher, please bring them.


Newspaper students need to submit articles this week for review. We will meet Tuesday at 3:00.


Calling all proud parents, celebrate your graduating student’s journey with a senior recognition ad for the yearbook. Go to www.jostens.com/student to create your ad for as low as $50. Ads must be purchased by December to be included in the yearbook.

The Film Club will meet Tuesday after school in Mr. Johnson’s room to discuss MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Students should make sure they have turned in their permission slips to see this film. Also, the Gamers Club will meet on Thursday. Any students interested in joining these clubs should contact Mr. Johnson.

Constitution Day Instagram Competiton September 19-23 sponsored by the James Library Open to RCC and RECHS students. Post a photo on Instagram that represents what voting rights outlined in the Constitution with the 15th, 19th, 24th and 26th amendments mean to you. Tag the photo as #RccConstitutionDay2022. The winner will receive a framed copy of their entry.

RECHS History Club will sponsor a voter registration drive on Tuesday, September 20th from 8 am to 4 pm in acknowledgement of National Voter Registration Day. National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. First observed in 2012, it has quickly gained momentum ever since. Nearly 4.7 million voters have registered to vote on the holiday to date.

RECHS History Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, September 29th at 3:15 in classroom 208 of the Humanities Building (Ms. Abbott’s Classroom). We will be taking group pictures so please make every effort to be present. This is the picture for yearbook.

Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-

This is Russell Vernon, Principal of RECHS calling with important reminders for this week of school:

Do you need dinner plans for Wednesday night? September 14th is this month’s Elizabeth’s Pizza Night for RECHS. Eat in or take out from the restaurant in Wentworth and be sure to tell them that you are with RECHS. A percentage of all sales that night will come back to the school. Tell all your friends and family!

Graduating Senior parent and student night will be held Thursday September 15th from 6:00-7:30 in RCC’s auditorium. There will be a presentation from our college advisor, school counselor, senior advisor and a few other guests with resources for graduating seniors. This evening is a great time to learn more about the graduation process, college application process, financial aid, and many other important topics.


Kona Ice will be on campus Friday September 16th. Prices will range from 3.00 to 6.00. In addition, PTO will have some extra clothing for sale while Kona Ice is here. All students and staff, dress in your RECHS swag on Friday!


Junior meetings begin next week with Mrs Tatum in her office. Students have signed up for a day and time. This is a very important meeting please do not miss.


Parents, when you send in a note for your student being absent or to leave early, please put the student’s first and last name on the note.

The PTO of the Griffins Fundraiser is ending this week. If you are still selling or you have orders to turn in, please ensure all orders, forms, and money is turned in on September 7th. All checks should be written to the PTO of the Griffins. If you are not selling and would like to be eligible for our last two drawings this week, you can donate in increments of $50.00. Thank you to all who have participated. Also, there will be a PTO meeting Thursday night at 6:30 in the mezzanine

Results of the SGA election will be released on Tuesday morning unless a run-off for a spot is needed.

If you are interested in joining the Hotbotz robotics team, there is an interest meeting on Wednesday, September 7 starting at 4:30 in the cafeteria. Come join us to learn more about robotics and enjoy ice cream.

The Gamers Club will meet on Thursday. Any students interested in joining those clubs should contact Mr. Johnson.

Friday- All staff and students are asked to sport their RECHS swag. Wear any shirt with RECHS or wear purple to show your school pride. Pictures taken during spirit weeks could end up in the yearbook,

The PTO of the Griffins Fundraiser is going strong. Students are selling Mrs. Pumpkins products. Chicken pies, spaghetti, and brownies. The next turn in day is tomorrow, August 31st. Remember for every 10 items sold students will be entered into a drawing. The next one will be tomorrow. Sal will conclude on September 7th.


2023 Graduates!! Herff Jones will be in the mezzanine Wednesday Aug 31st between 8:30 and 10:30 collecting graduation orders. Remember if you are graduating from RCC you only need to purchase the stole and tassel. The price for just the stole and tassel is $43.00 If you are not graduating from RCC you will need to purchase a cap and gown also. Please have the top portion of your order form already filled out.

FCA will meet Monday morning from 8:15 am - 8:45am in L107- Mrs. Hammack’s classroom which is located beside the cafeteria.

The PTO of the Griffins Fundraiser is going strong. Students are selling Mrs. Pumpkins products. Chicken pies, spaghetti, and brownies. The next turn in day is August 31st. Remember for every 10 items sold students will be entered into a drawing. The next one will be on the 31st.


Be on the lookout for an announcement from Mr. Joyner in the student canvas shell about Student Government either on Monday or Tuesday!. We will be voting for representatives this week for each grade level. Voting will close on Thursday afternoon and class representatives will be announced on Friday!!


If you are interested in helping to create a school newspaper, make plans to attend an interest meeting this Tuesday at 3:00 in Mrs. Williams’ classroom.


History Club will hold its first meeting on Monday, August 29th in Ms. Abbott’s classroom (Humanities Classroom 208) @3:15. The meeting will last approximately an hour with 4:30 being the latest end time. History Club is member led and the officers with president, Kaelise Lane will be setting the agenda for the year.


The Film Club will meet Tuesday after school in Mr. Johnson’s room to view and discuss the next movie in its unit on apocalyptic cinema, CHILDREN OF MEN. Students should make sure they have turned in their permission slips to see this film. The Gamers Club will meet on Thursday. Any students interested in joining those clubs should contact Mr. Johnson.


Attention Seniors and Super Seniors: Advising Meetings: We have had a great week meeting with our seniors. We have one more day, Wednesday August 31st, to meet with seniors to talk about high school credits and associate’s degree, along with college, work, and military options. We will be in the ADT building room 103 on Wednesday so please make sure you are signed up. Please bring your laptop to this meeting.


If you are interested in joining the Hotbotz robotics team, there is an interest meeting on Wednesday, September 7 starting at 4:00 in the cafeteria. Come join us to learn more about robotics and enjoy ice cream.

RECHS and RCC will be closed on Monday, September 5th to observe Labor Day!

Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-

This is Russell Vernon, Principal of RECHS calling with important reminders for this week of school:

Tomorrow kicks off the PTO Fundraiser. Students should have a packet of information with a letter explaining the details for the Mrs. Pumpkins sale. These chicken pies, spaghetti dishes and brownies are famous in all areas and practically sell themselves. The first drawing for prizes will take place on August 25th. Any student that has sold 10 items or donated $50.00 will be entered into the first drawing. The top salesperson at the conclusion of the sale will get $100.00 cash. Second place will be $50.00 and the third place seller will receive $25.00 cash. If selling items does not interest you, each student can donate $50.00 to be entered into all drawings throughout the sale. All checks should be written to the PTO of the Griffins. Please email Mrs. Angela Vanhook if you have any questions at aforgay@netmcr.com.

Art Club will have their first meeting Monday, 8/22 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in Mrs. Hammack’s classroom. Art Club will meet on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month.

Attention Seniors and Super Seniors: Advising Meetings will be held with Mrs Tatum, School Counselor, Ms Caple, College Liaison, and Ms Devone, College Advisor in the ADT building room 103 beginning Monday, August 22nd. They will go over your high school and college requirements to be sure you are on track for high school graduation and the associates degree based on your 4 or 5 year plan. There is a signup sheet please be sure you have signed up for this important required meeting. Please bring your laptop to this meeting.

The Film Club will meet next Tuesday after school in Mr. Johnson’s room to view and discuss the classic science fiction movie PLANET OF THE APES. The Gamers Club will meet on Thursday. Any students interested in joining those clubs should contact Mr. Johnson.

Battle of the Books will not begin meeting until sometime in September. The information that Mr. O’Neil needs will not be available from the Central Office until after traditional high schools resume classes. Canvas announcements and emails will be sent out as soon as the first meeting is scheduled!

Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-

This is Russell Vernon, Principal of RECHS calling with important reminders for this week of school:

We are excited that PTO of the Griffins has secured Kona Ice again this year to periodically visit campus and sell flavored ice. This Friday will be the first time. Prices will range from $3.00 to $6.00.

If you ordered a yearbook last year and have not picked it up or if you still wish to purchase last year’s book, there are a few left for $75. Please come by Mrs. Williams’ class this week to get last year’s yearbook. Remember now is the time to buy this year’s book for $50. Go to www.jostens.com to order one today and save $25.00!

College classes start Monday August 15th. All students should have verified they can access moddle and their RCC email by now. If you have not received your college textbooks, please come see us first thing in the morning after 8:00 am.

The main entrance to RCC onto Wrenn Memorial Rd. from NC 65 will be closed until further notice as construction begins for the Center for Workforce Development. Please make plans to access and leave campus utilizing the entrance/exit off County Home Rd.

Also, the parking lot across from the Science Building (Lot B) will be closed until further notice starting Monday. Please make plans to access the other parking areas on campus during this time. Parents and students may use the lots at Whitcomb student center and Humanities. Please plan accordingly and expect delays.

The PTO of the Griffins wants you to be a part of their success. Please join them the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 in the mezzanine for their meeting. PTO will be sending home information soon about the school-wide fundraiser. They will be selling Ms. Pumpkin’s Pies and goods. Top students will have a chance to win cash prizes and there will be multiple drawings throughout the sale.

This is a very important message for parents/guardians of our 12th graders. All 12th grade students are required to have a booster dose of the meningococcal vaccine (MCV). An updated immunization record is due at school by 9/8/2022. If your student has not already received this immunization booster, please make plans now by contacting your student’s health care provider or the Rockingham County Health Department. For more information, please contact our school nurse, Corrine Ore at (336) 342-4261.

Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-

This is Russell Vernon, Principal of RECHS calling with important reminders for the first week of school:


Open Houses have gone well this past week. We have one more opportunity for you to come and meet your teacher and walk your schedule. RECHS will be open tomorrow from 9 to 4.


The first day of school for RECHS is Tuesday, August 9th. We will have mandatory meetings on August 9th and 10th for all 11th-13’s. Juniors will meet in the ADT Auditorium from 9 to 10 and Seniors and Super Seniors will meet both days from 10:00 to 11:00. We will discuss procedures for the 11th and 12th at these meetings.


All other high school students should report to your homeroom on Tuesday morning. Remember school starts at 8:50 and you are considered tardy at 8:51. School is dismissed each day at 2:55. We will discuss the RCS dress code with all students. Remember no holes in jeans above the mid-thigh. No shorts or skirts above the mid-thigh (this applies to boy's shorts as well). The RCS handbook is located on the RCS website and students will receive a copy on the first day. No spaghetti straps, crop tops, or headgear (such as scarfs or bandanas) including hats should be worn at school.


School breakfast and lunch is provided every day but is no longer free for all students. All students are encouraged to fill out the free and reduced lunch form. Lunch is $3.25 a day. Students are welcome to pack their lunch. Parents, please remember to drop students off in any of our parking lots. Do not drop students off in the road and RCC does not want you to use the circle around the fountain for drop-off and pick-up.


We are so excited to have our students back and start a new school year. If any student ordered a yearbook last year, it was a summer print and it has arrived. We plan to give our yearbooks next week and allow students to sign them at lemonade on the lawn.


Interested in yearbook class? Applications are available in Mrs. Williams’ room. These are due back to Mrs. Williams by Friday, August 12th.


The best time to purchase a yearbook for this year is now at the lowest price of $50.

You may place your order online at www.jostens.com. If you ordered a yearbook last year, please see Mrs. Williams before school this week to pick it up.

Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-

This is Russell Vernon, Principal of RECHS calling with important reminders for Open Houses.


Open Houses will start tomorrow, August 4th as we welcome all incoming 9th graders and transfers. There will be three sessions to accommodate the best times for families. Please choose to attend a session at 10:00, 2:00, or 6:00 pm.


For all students and families in grades 10-13, we will host two floating open houses. Friday, August 5th from 9 to 3:00 pm and Monday, August 8th from 9 to 4:00 pm. During open houses, students and families will be able to walk schedules and meet the teachers.


Students and families, once you arrive on the campus of RCC, please park in any of the parking lots close to the RCC James Library. The library the two story building, with a fountain in front. RECHS main office is located on the second floor of the library. You will see some balloons at the entrance. Once you come up the steps, you will see me there to greet you.


Our first day of school for all students will be Tuesday, August 9th. During the first week, students will have time to check our computers and college textbooks. Any students wanting to rent a computer this year, will have to complete paperwork and pay the 30.00 usage fee. For new students, you will use your computer's daily. You are welcome to use your own device, or rent one from the school. Parents must sign a form to rent a computer, this check out process will be available at all Open Houses. Please make checks payable to RECHS.


Breakfast and lunch will no longer be free for all students in Rockingham County. Families are encouraged to go ahead and resubmit a free/reduced lunch form. You can do this early from the RCS website or students can pick up a form at an open house.


Will you need to ride the bus next year? Remember if you are a junior, senior or super senior you will need to submit a request to me for permission to ride if you are not planning to drive daily. If you have already submitted a bus request you will find out information at the open house. If you still need to complete the forms, they will be available as well.

Good Evening Griffin Students and Families-


Welcome to all incoming 9th graders and transfers. We are excited to have you as part of our family. This message contains some important information for all students, please listen to it in its entirety. Please mark your calendars for open house dates.
